Desert

  • very dry
  • very little rain
  • hot days, cold nights
  • rain dries up quickly

Grassland

  • Are also known as prairies,savannas,and meadows.
  • are called world's breadbasket

Tropical Rain Forest

  • Warm and wet all year
  • Soil is shallow amd easily washed away by rain
  • Few plants live on the dark forest floor

TemperAte RaiN forest

  • Winters are mild and rain
  • Summers are cool and fogg
  • Some plants are fungi, ferns, mosses, vines, and other small plants

TempErate deciduous forest

  • Summers are hot and humid
  • Winter is often below freezin
  • Soil is rich in nutrient
  • Plants: maples,oaks,birches,etc
  • Animals:snakes,ants,butterflies, birds,etc.

Taiga

  • winters are long and cold and snowy
  • soil is thin and acidic
  • evergreen trees: spruce, pine, and fir
  • human impact: tree harvesting reduces taiga habitat.

tundra

  • winters are dark and freezing
  • summers are short and cool
  • plants: shallow-rooted mosses, lichens, and grasses.
