HOW DID HE COME INTO OFFICE

  • He won the Vice Presidency and once president McKinley was assassinated Roosevelt succeeded the presidency and became the 26th president of the United States.

WHAT WAS THE PRESIDENTS "PROGRAM"?

  • He was a dedicated conservationist, setting aside some 200 million acres for national forests, reserves and wildlife refuges during his presidency.
  • He wanted to ensure the government improve American citizens lives.
  • He failed twice trying to get a spot on the national republic ticket.
  • He was very successful everything he put his mind to was a success.

THREE MOST MEMORABLE EVENTS OF HIS PRESIDENCY.

  • He led the effort to secure rights to build the Panama Canal, one of the greatest engineering feats at that time.
  • He issued his "corollary" to the Monroe Doctrine, which established the United States as the head of the Western Hemisphere.
  • He helped negotiate peace agreements between belligerent nations. He believed that the world should settle international disagreements through diplomacy not war.
  • He also secured 200 million acres of land for wildlife reserves.

  • He was defeated by democrat Woodrow Willson, he threw his hat into the ring as a candidate for the Progressive Party.
  • He passed at the age of 60 January 6, 1919
