What separates the great from the good?

Discuss..
Don't be a good all black - be a great all black

Tino Best

This is Tino Best speaking, the fastest bowler in the world. I can't take your call right now, but I'll get back to you as soon as I've finished practising how to get faster'

Thinking Fast and Slow - people are loss averse genrally - those puts in golf that are three foot are achieved 4% more for par than for birdie. Most people play not to lose, not to win.

Great people play to win.

Daniel Kahneman - "A message, unless it is immediately rejected as a lie, will have the same effect on the brain regardless."

Focus on the process not the outcome

Creat a conscious process of the basic steps that will help you get to your goal - the goal itself may scare you

So, don't aim for all kids to get a gard 7, aim for all kids to write three pages of notes per session; all students to be able to recall

Practice the processes

Be positive and create how to statements

Arrive early, read the question, use AFOREST

Think correctly under pressure

TCUP
Think about the process, what you can control - this should absorb your ful attention - this should be so absorbing that it does not allow the endgame to distract you

Get into the ugly zone too - stretch yourself and your children

Rudyard Kipling

  • For the strength of the pack is the wolf
  • For the strength of the wolf is the pack

For a high performance culture...

  • Select on character
  • Understand your strategy for change
  • Devolve leadership
  • Encourage a learning environment
  • Turn standards into actions
STandards into actions - eg "Respect the shoirt" - turn it into real thing like no phones in meetings

Leaders who have been in an organisation reinforce the values because they are their standards...

Maori saying

  • "A little water seeping through a small hole may swamp a canoe"
  • How might this apply to our school?

No dickheads

One disaffected or selfish person infects a group
No-one is bigger than the team

Setting high standards and realising the or that eeds to be done to get there is paramount

As a leaders, you are being watched 24 hours a day

What are the a ctions that translate into being a successful leader?

Are you mdelling this behaviour?

Everyone needs to share the same goals

Everyone needs to pull in the same direction

Everyone needs to share the standards, the non negs.
