Hello TUSC members today I’m going to be doing the roll Croc Hunter. The animal I’m doing is called a kangaroo rat. I find this animal very fascinating because of it’s unusual characteristic. It’s unusual characteristic is it doesn’t have to drink any water and it can survive in the desert. Kangaroo rats burrow in the ground and make a shelter to protect them from the harsh environment.
I chose this animal because it looks funny and for the title on the website it said Kangaroo Rats survive without drinking water and I thought that was cool. I’m going to explain more about the animals characteristics. The kangaroo rat doesn’t have to drink water because it sucks the nutrients and moisture from seeds they find. It also has other cool things that it can do like jump really far about nine feet and have insane hearing. Kangaroo rats have small front legs and big back legs, they store food in their pouches on the side of their cheeks, they have a 6 inch body and a 8 inch tail, they have a longer tail than body and males are larger than females.
Some predators of the kangaroo rat are owls, bobcats, foxes, badgers, coyotes and that’s only a few animals. Unfortunately kangaroo rats don’t live for too long, they only live for 2-5 years. Kangaroo rats don’t sweat or pant like other animals because they would lose water from their body and they probably don’t find seeds too often so that would be bad. Kangaroo rats burrows are similar to our houses except their houses are made of dirt. The reason why their houses are similar is because they have different rooms for different things like one for eating, one for sleeping and many more.
My vocabulary words are characteristic, moisture and fascinating. First off is characteristic which means a quality of something or someone. Second is moisture which means a wet spot or a damp spot. Last is fascinating which means interesting or amusing.
