Sputnik

The Beginning of the Space Race

On October 4,1957 the Soviet Union launched the first satellite. The mission lasted for 92 days and completed 1,440 orbits.

It was 23 inches in diameter and weighed around 184 pounds at time of launch.

America attempted to launch their first but it failed.

Sputnik fell out of orbit on January 4, 1958.
