The Diet

  • The Diet has a 475-seat House of Representatives (lower house) and the 242-seat House of Councilors (upper house)

Elected Ruler

  • The Japanese do not elect a President directly.
  • Diet members elect a Prime Minister from among themselves.

Legal System

  • Supreme Court
  • Lower courts, such as high courts, district courts.
  • Summary courts for lighter crimes, unexpectedly use citizens at random as judges.

Voting

  • All Japanese citizens can vote once they reach the age of 18.
