VIETNAM WAR
North and South Vietnam were involved in the war.
The war was fought in Vietnam in 1954-1975.
The war started after the cold war when people were trying to
prevent communism. U.S. helped to stop the spread. They also strengthned
ties with France and supported South Vietnam to contain communism.

PRESIDENT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE TONKIN GULF RESOLUTION
President Johnson
Asked to pass a resolution that said
"To promote from maintenance of international peace and security in
Southeast Asia". It was passed on August 7, 1964.

HO CHIN MINH TRAIL
Ran along Locas/Combodia and Vietnam border
Let troops travel to the south and used it for supplies
(Weapons,food,equipment)

DOMINO THEORY
President Eisenhower came up with it
Idea that if a nation falls under communist control,
nearby nations will also fall under communist control.

Vietcong-military army of the national liberation front
created by north vietnamese to escalte armed struggle in south.
Vietminh-communist and nationalist group that fought against
Japanese occupation and ended French colonialism.

Army of Republic
Part of the French Union forces that fought the
Vietminh in the first Indochina war, was equipped
by the U.S. throughout the war

TET OFFENSIVE
Massive surprise attack by the Vietcong
on South Vietnamese towns and cities.
It started on January 30th, 1968.

INVASION OF CAMBODIA
Nixon authorized the incursion of
U.S. Military forces into Cambodia in order
to disrupt the supply lines of the Vietcong
and destroy their base in Cambodia.

VIETNAM AFTER U.S. LEFT
South Vietnamese forces were soon defeated, then
two years later North Vietnamese took over Saigon.
Vietnam became a country united under communist rule.
