WHAT IS PALEO

  • Paleo is a diet based on the Paleolithic era.
  • The idea is to eat foods that were only available in the Paleolithic era 2.5 million years - 10000 years ago.

WHO MADE IT

  • The paleo diet was developed by Loren Cordain in the 1970s. He was professor from Colorado State University.

THEORY

  • The theory behind the paleo diet is that humans are genetically fit for these types of foods. Being that these foods were the only food available when humans were at their most primal. We are designed for these foods.

FOODS

  • The foods eaten in a paleo diet are natural foods that were obtained by hunting and gathering.
  • Such as, meats, fish, fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds.

FARMING

  • Even seemingly health foods from farming are not allowed. It is believe that farming outpaced the bodies ability to adapt.
  • Foods such as dairy and bread are not allowed.

POSITIVES

  • Weight loss
  • Improved glucose tolerance
  • Better blood pressure
  • Lower triglycerides

NEGATIVES

  • No grains or diary which are essential foods.
  • Expensive
  • Not enough carbs to sustain an active person.

COST

  • For two people a paleo diet will cost around 150 dollars a week.
  • That’s almost 8000 dollars a year.
  • However you would avoid spending a lot at restaurants.
