  • To control what can be traded between countries
  • Make the countries interdependent tto aviod conflict

EU'S POSITION ON GMOS

  • We are very much against the use of GMOs
  • We consider GMOs new food
  • GMOs are subject to strenuous tests
  • Whether they are safe to eat or plant
  • Fail - go back, Safe - ready for trade

WHY WE RESTRICT GMOS

  • Worried about human health
  • Environmental factors
  • Concerned with animal health
  • Worried about plant health

OTHER RISKS

  • Don't want to mix genes
  • So they are not as susceptible to disease
