PRESENTATION OUTLINE

The basic units are the meter (39.37 inches) for length and the gram (15.432 grains) for mass or weight.

Def:Volume/The amount of space occupied by a three-dimensional object or region of space. Volumes are expressed in cubic units. A measure of the loudness or intensity of a sound. volume definition.

Mass def/A measure of the amount of matter contained in or constituting a physical body. In classical mechanics, the mass of an object is related to the force required to accelerate it and hence is related to its inertia, and is essential to Newton's laws of motion.

Length def/ the distance from one end of something to the other end : a measurement of how long something is

Matter def/The term often refers to a substance that has rest mass. Matter is also used loosely as a general term for the substance that makes up all observable physical objects. All objects we see with the naked eye are composed of atoms.

Temperature def/Temperature can be defined as the degree of intensity of hotness or coldness.

Celsius a scale of temperature in which 0° represents the melting point of ice and 100° represents the boiling point of water.

Gram def/A measure of the amount of matter contained in or constituting a physical body.

Liter def/The definition of a liter is a unit for measuring volume in the metric system.

Meter def/the fundamental unit of length in the metric system, equivalent to 39.37 U.S. inches, originally intended to be, and being very nearly, equal to one ten-millionth of the distance from the equator to the pole measured on a meridian

Balance def/a state of equilibrium or equipoise; equal distribution of weight, amount, etc.

Scale def/The definition of a scale is an outer protective layer made up of flat, rigid, overlapping plates.

THERMOMETER def/how hot or cold something is. Thermometers are used to see if you have a fever or tell you how cold it is outside.

(Ruler)METER-STICK def/n a rule one meter long (usually marked off in centimeters and millimeters)

Beaker def/a flat-bottomed cylindrical container, usually with a pouring lip, especially one used in a laboratory.

GRADUATED CYLINDER def/a narrow, cylindrical container marked with horizontal lines to represent units of measurement and used to precisely measure the volume of liquids.

Flask def/a bottle, usually of glass, having a rounded body and a narrow neck, used especially in laboratory experimentation.
