BERLIN COFERENCE
It happened in between 1884 and 1885.
It was also called the Congo conference.
In this conference they decided how to divide up Africa.
They did it this way to avoid warring in the European countries.

It was the conquering, occupation, and annexation of Africa.
The Portuguese were the first to occupy this area.
It began at the end of the 18th century.
Only 10% of Africa was controlled in the 1870s.

They influenced the governments in their favor.
Things like spheres of influence are used for control
They replaced leaders with leaders that would listen to them.
