PRESENTATION OUTLINE
There are many ways figurative language can come up. There is figurative language in songs, movies, and books.
There are many types of figurative language and we have 9 examples for you guys.
There is simile, personification, metaphor, hyperbole, alliteration, onomatopoeia, oxymoron, idiom, and understatement.
Our first song is by Rascal Flats and its Life Is a Highway. They said "I loved you now like I loved you then". This is a simile because, he is using the word like and he is comparing 2 things. He is saying that he still loves her the same.
Our second figurative language in the same song, Life is a Highway, is personification. He says, "Where blues won't haunt you anymore". It's personification because he is giving human qualities to a non human thing. He means that sadness won't occur to you anymore.
Our third figurative language is Katy Perrys Roar which has a metaphor In it. She says, " I went from zero to my own hero". It is a metaphor because she is comparing her old self to her new self. She is trying to say that she went from being pointless to worth some.
Our 4th figurative language is a hyperbole in the song stereo hearts, by gym class heroes. He says, "My hearts a stereo that only plays for you". This a hyperbole because, how can a heart be a stereo so that's an extreme exaggeration. He is trying to tell her that he only loves her.
This is an old classic. It's called Here Comes The Sun by The Beetles! Over here they are using Aliteration. They say," Little darling it's been a cold lonely winter" over and over again. They mean that it was a very sad time for them.
Our 6th figurative language is in a song once again. Boom Boom Pow, By Black Eyed Peas.
They say " I got that boom boom pow" meaning that he has great moves on the dance floor. It's onomatopoeia because it's using sound to express they're feelings.
This time our we got our figurative language from a book. This book is The Raft by S.A Bodeen as most of you know. In her book she used an oxymoron and said
" That was awfully good" meaning that it was very good.
Our 8th figurative language is from the classic movie, Home Alone 4. In this movie they used understatement. The poor little boy was scared but after he realized that it was just the wind and he said " It was just the wind"
Finally our last figurative language is an idiom. The song is by the legend Adele and her great song "Someone Like You". She said " I hate to turn up out of the blue uninvited" meaning that she hates to go to places that she wasn't invited to.
