  • The Roanoke Colony, known as the Lost Colony, was established on Roanoke Colony.
  • It was Queen Elizabeth1's attempt in the late 16th century to establish a permanent English settlement.

  • It was established in 1585
  • Left in 1586 because they had had a long winter
  • Tried again in 1587
  • 1590 men came to the colony with some supplies and found the colony gone.

  • The other disappeared in 1590.

  • THE WORD "CROATOAN" MEANS THAT THEY WILLINGLY MOVED TO TO THE CROATOAN ISLAND
  • SOME BELIEVE THAT THE POWHATAN TRIBE KILLED THEM OF
  • THE COLONISTS TRAVELED FURTHER INTO THE FOREST.
