TOMMY THE ROBOT NURSE HELPS ITALIAN DOCTORS CARE FOR CORONAVIRUS PATIENTS

BY ASHER D. REXING

THE BORING STUFF

  • The article was written on 4/14/20
  • It was found on neWsela
  • It’s titled “TOMMY THE ROBOT NURSE HELPS ITALIAN DOCTORS CARE FOR CORONAVIRUS PATIENTS

The situation:

The corona virus has been spreading for nearly 5 months. But to help Italian doctors and nurses, Tommy the robot was created. The patient can use Tommy to talk to the doctors and nurses. He can also check patients blood pressure, and the oxygen saturation for the patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) — including those who are hooked up to a ventilator. But most importantly, he limits the amount of direct contact between doctors and patients.

When and where

This article’s story is taking place in Italy. It’s very current.

The authors purpose is to explain/describe

I could tell because the author is trying to explain to us what tommy the robot does

This is newsworthy because Tommy the robot helps doctors not get sick, by limiting the amount of direct contact with doctors and nurses. He also helps the patients talk to the doctors. For example, if the patient needs a glass of water, than he can use Tommy like a walkie talkie, and use him to ask the nurse for a glass of water. But if he/she didn’t have Tommy they would have to yell for the nurse, which is very disruptive. He can also get the blood pressure of patients and check the oxygen in the patients ICU, when the doctors can’t.

This fits inot the historical lens because this will change history forever,by letting us know that if COVID-19 ever spreads again, we’ll know that either robots are the way to go, or aren’t the way to go

I think this fits into the civic lens because the Italian government probably had to fundraise for Tommy, as robots msut be very expensive, as well as the government had to spend time to build him.

I think this fits into the geographic lens because Tommy the robot most likely was built in a factory, which are bad for the environment. So producing to many robots like Tommy could severely harm the environment

I think this fits into the economic lens because the Italian government had to pay for Tommy, as well as the hospital had to buy him. And like I said in the civic lens, robots cost alot.

I think this fits into the cultural lens because Tommy helps reduce the amount of contact between patients and doctors, which helps the doctors not get sick, which allows them to spend more time with their families. It also gives the patients a fun new experience
