Punic Wars
Rome and Carthage fought three wars known as the Punic Wars between 264 and 146 B.C.

The first of the Punic Wars was for control over Sicily, which Rome won.

The second war was started by Hannibal, who wanted to avenge Carthage's earlier defeat. The Romans won this war.

The third war was started by a senator named Cato for the purpose of getting revenge on Carthage for the destruction that they brought to Italy.
The Romans won this war.

The Mediterranean Sea continues to be important for trade & has become a big tourist destination. Today, people still rely on it for jobs and food.
