Because Pres. Kennedy set a National goal

  • To go to the moon and back
  • Advance in science
  • Show Soviet Union that NASA was better
  • To show the world that USA was boss

Impact and Lesson

we can do anything if we just persist, & improved equipment for the future

How does it relate to s.s class?

  •  Apollo 11 was a innovation that advanced USA's science
  • just like the innovated cotton gin advanced USA economy
  • or the innovated mass production to advance our production
  • Also, ironclads were innovated, which boosted military
  • All of these led to a more advanced AMERICA

How it impacted US culture

  • Provided a boost of morale in the late 60's
  • Morale was low due to the Vietnam war
  • Morale = low due to assassination of MLK and Rob Kennedy
  • Also had an amazing affect on ppl's POV regarding Earth
  • People gained self worth when astronauts said Earth looked lively
In all, Apollo 11 affected US culture by making people on Earth have more hope and higher morale and spirits after all of the bad things that have happened in the 60's. Also made America seem more advanced than the rest of the world technology - wise.

Neil's famous quote

"that's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind"

BONUS

  • Neil was a little angry at an interview...
  • He claimed that he actually said an "a" between "for" and "man"
  • "That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind."
  • That would separate one man and mankind by a lot...
  • Tests were ran to see if Neil's Ohio dialect was just confusing.

Turns out he did say an A!

That changes a whole lot of things. I guess.
