AMY BEACH’S CHILDHOOD

  • Amy was born on September 5,1867 in Henniker, NH to Charles and Clara Cheney. It is unknown that she has any siblings.
  • Amy was a child prodigy, she could accurately memorize and sing 40 songs by the age of 1. She could also harmonize.
  • Amy composed her first song at the age of 4.
  • Amy was able to play the piano by age 6.

FACTS ABOUT AMY BEACH:

  • Beach’s second uncle co-founded Bate’s College.
  • First Woman to write a symphony since she received training in the US.
  • Amy made her concert debut at the age of 16, on October 1883, and since then have performed pieces from renowned composers such as Chopin and Mendelssohn. •She was married to a Boston surgeon named Dr. Henry Harris Aubrey Beach, who was 24 years old.

FACTS ABOUT AMY BEACH:

  • She was born into a wealthy family. During her childhood, women pursuing performing arts were not approved by society. However, Amy continued to pursue learning the piano and perform in recitals and concerts. •Amy Beach also provided advice and coaching to young composers to help them progress in their future careers in music and composition.
