ORIGINAL AMENDMENT

  • The Seventh Amendment, or Amendment VII of the United States Constitution is the section of the Bill of Rights that guarantees a jury trial for civil cases in the federal courts.

MY SUMMARY

  • The 7th Amendment is if you are suing someone and you don't want the judge to make the decision you are able to go in front of a jury. 2. If the case doesn't exceed $75,000 then the case can't be heard in federal court.

  • On the day of September 15, 1791 the 7th amendment was ratified.

  • During this time it was the age of sail and discovery.
  • 3 major events:
  • Congress created the U.S mint
  • Bill of rights were ratified when Virginia approved.
  • The first bank of U.S. opens

THE LIFE OF AN AVERAGE AMERICAN

  • An average person would live to be 37 years old
  • An average person would work 80 hours a week
  • 48% worked in the fields 27% were factory workers 16% were in the army 9% worked in Education

WHY WAS THE AMENDMENT PROPOSED

  • The amendment was proposed because the founders believed everyone was entitled to being heard in front of a jury.
  • The 7th amendment was proposed by James Madison.
  • The amendment was proposed on September 28, 1789 and ratified on December 15, 1791.

WHAT DID THIS AMENDMENT CHANGE

  • The amendment changed how every case is heard by a jury and give a verdict.

Feltner v. Columbia Pictures Television, Inc.

  • In 1991, Columbia Pictures Television, cut and agreement licensing several television series, including "Who's the Boss," "Silver Spoons," "Hart to Hart," and "T. J. Hooker," these stations were owned by C. Elvin Feltner
  • Columbia sued Feltner for the continuation to broadcast the shows for copyright agreements
