WEATHER VS. CLIMATE

  • The difference between weather and climate is a measure of time.
  • Weather conditions of the atmosphere over a short period of time
  • Climate is how the atmosphere "behaves" over long periods of time

AIR PRESSURE

  • The force exerted on you by the weight of tiny particles of air
  • Weather forecasters measure air pressure with a barometer

HUMIDITY

  • Moisture in the air
  • Moisture or water in the atmosphere causes clouds to form fog

AIR MASSES

  • Large pockets of air commonly form that are distinct from the surrounding atmosphere
  • An air mass must be large in size
  • An air mass must be physically bound together,

FRONTS

  • Cold front-weather associates cold fronts bc it moves quickly & passes over a location in a short period of time
  • Warm front- Clouds form in the sky as the warm air is lifted upward proceeded by thicker clouds
  • Stationary front- When two air masses come together but neither displaces the other,

SEVERE WEATHER

  • Hurricane- are large tropical storms with heavy winds
  • Tornado- is a violent rotating column of air extending from a thunderstorm to the ground
  • Blizzards- a severe snowstorm with high winds and low visibility
