The atmosphere is very important to all living things on Earth. My lesson today will show you why it is so.

First of all, the atmosphere has many layers. They are, in order from lowest to highest...

  • The troposphere
  • The stratosphere
  • The mesosphere
  • The thermosphere
  • The exosphere

The air pressure gets lower the higher you get in the atmosphere; this is because the higher you go, the less air is above.

The troposphere is the bottommost layer, and it's the layer where we live in.
Fact: Did you know that even airplanes don't get higher than this layer?

The stratosphere is the layer that holds the ozone layer, and it is the layer above the troposphere.

The mesosphere is the third layer in the atmosphere. Sounding rockets fly at this level.

The thermosphere is the second-to-last layer of the atmosphere.

The exosphere is the highest layer in the atmosphere, and everything after that is outer space.
