RIKKI-TIKKI-TAVI

Many years ago, in India, a mongoose (Rikki-tikki-tavi) was washed up at the home of Teddy and his parents. They take him in, and when two mean snakes named Nag and Nagini feel threatened by him, and put teddy in danger, they won't know what comes at them. Join Darzee, Chuchundra, and Rikki to find out what happens next.

The conflicts in this book are Nag and Nagaina (Black Cobras) and Karait (brown snake).

My favorite quote from this book would have to be,
"H'sh! Nag is everywhere, Rikki-tikki. You should have talked to Chua in the garden."
"I didn't—so you must tell me. Quick Chuchundra, or I'll bite you!"
It's hard to choose, but that line is ultimately my favorite.

A few vocabulary words from this book are:
1) revive- to return to life or consciousness
2) veranda- a long, open porch, usually with a roof
3) fledgling- a young bird that has recently grown its flight feathers

Some foreshadowing in this story by Rudyard Kipling is:
1) "Teddy is safer with that little beast than if he had a bloodhound to watch him. If a snake came into the nursery now—"
That says that Teddy's father believes that Rikki-tikki can kill snakes easily, which foreshadows the outcome of Rikki's battle with Nag and Nagaina.

The message of this book is that if your brave, fortune and happiness will come to you. Bravery is small things you don't think about, not crying when it seems like the world is crumbling around you. Voicing your opinion on things you care about, asking someone for help even if you don't want to. Isn't it funny how the simple things in life are the only ones that really matter?

My favorite character in this book is Chuchundra, even though he's not in it long, he's ADORABLE and he shows his real emotions no matter who's watching/listening.

My favorite part is when Darzee, the tailorbird, sings about how amazing Rikki-tikki is, even when Rikki tells him to stop.

FUN FACTS ABOUT THE BOOK

• Rikki-tikki's eyes turn red when he gets mad, or is getting ready to kill a snake
• This takes place in India, and even though it's obvious because of the snakes, that shocks me.
• Rudyard Kipling, the author of this book, also wrote the classic, 'The Jungle Book.'

All in all, I give this book a great rating!! I loved it, and I would recommend it highly for all my fellow classic lovers out there! :D
