BIOGRAPHY

  • Born: June, 29th 1491
  • Born at The Palace of Placentia, Greenwich
  • His reign lasted 38 years (1509-1547)
  • His claim to the throne was marrying his dead eldest brothers wife.
  • His children included his 2 daughters Elizabeth I, and Mary i, and his 2 sons Edward vi, and Henry duke of Cornwall
  • He died January 28th, 1547 at the palace of Whitehall, London

HIS KINGDOM

HE WAS AN ABSOLUTE MONARCH BECuSE OF HIS POLICIES, HIS ACTIONS, AND HIS CRUELTY TOWARDS HIS SUBJECTS

MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS

  • Henry VIII mounted the biggest invasions of France since the reign of King Henry V
  • Led the religious reformation in England and changed the religion of England from the Roman
  • King Henry VIII added Imperial concepts of Kingship to existing Feudal concepts
  • Produced three children who all ruled as the King or Queens of England continuing the Tudor Dynasty: King Edward VI, Bloody Mary and Queen Elizabeth I

maJOR FAILURES

  • The wars with France and Scotland wasted more goods and army than what English army gained and the decrease in English wealth fastened the country to cause rapid growth in inflation.
  • The new trade routes brought to Europe were ignored by the king and, the navy and ship expansion were ignored.
  • Most of his marriages ended in divorce or executing his wife.

After his reign his successor was Edward vi and after that began the Elizabethan era.

History remembers king Henry viii negatively. Since he was so cruel to his subjects and wives.
