The mountain is a very large rock of granite that juts out from the earths crust

Due to the high elevation the mountain catches more rain and supports its own ecosystem both on top and around its base. Meanwhile the surrounding area is arid and has significantly less life. This foliage is what gives the mountain is green color compared to the desert around it.
