Bazille was considered to be one of the most gifted of the soon-to-be impressionist and, if he had lived he might would have become one of the leaders of that group. Pissaro described him as one of the most gifted among us.
On November 28, 1870 Jean-Frederic Bazille was pronounced dead after being hit twice. It was his first and last battle. His father took him back for burial.
