Conception and Implantation Conception is the meeting of an egg and a sperm cell which then become a zygote which once fertilized then travels into the uterus where it then becomes implantation.
After implantation An embryo is a cluster of cells that develops between 3-8 weeks then after the 8 weeks it develops into a group of cells called a fetus
Embryonic Growth The growing embryo divides into 3 sections. 1. Respiratory and Digestive system 2. Muscle, bones, blood vessels, and skin 3. Nervous system, sense organs, and mouth
Fetal Development From conception to the birth of the child there is a time period of 9 months. Those months are divided into 3 month periods called trimesters
First trimester 0-2 weeks- arms, ears, and brain start to form 3-8 weeks- Nervous and cardiovascular system begin to function while the mouth, nostrils, eyelids, hands, and feet begin to grow 9-14 weeks- The fetus begins to take a human shape while sex organs begin to develop
Second Trimester 15-20 weeks- Can blink eyes, hair develops, and limbs are close to full proportions. 21-28 weeks- can now hear and and has a regular sleeping schedule
Birth Stage 1- Dilation Uterus contracts causing it to widen and the water breaks Stage 2- Passage through the the birth canal Baby comes out and starts to cry Stage 3- After Birth Contractions continue until the placenta is pushed out and the umbilical cord is cut Postpartum period- a 6 week period where the child and mother adjust
Birth Complications Cesarean section- A surgical method of birth. Premature Birth- Delivery of baby before 37th week. Low Birth Weight- Baby weighs less that 5.5 pound which could cause complications
