Working Conditions

  • A lot of times you are outside working.
  • Also in the spring in fall you will spend a lot of time in machinery.

Daily Routine

  • You will to service your equipment right away in the morning. Then you will want to start it to let it warm up for 5-10 minutes.

Daily Routine

  • Once it is warmed up you will start for the day. Most days you will not stop until its after dark.

Hours

  • Spring and fall days will be roughly 6:30-10:30. Summer days will not be as long usually 8:00-5:30.

Education

  • You only really need a high school degree to be a farmer. College will be very helpful to you but you do not need it. If you go to college you will want to go for things such as agronomy or precision ag.

Training

  • Most of your training will be on the job training. You will learn about the different kinds of equipment and tractors on the job.

Salary

  • The average annual salary of a US farmer is $69,300. The average hourly wage is $33.32. There will not be any benefits.

Job Outlook

  • The job outlook for this looks good. It is good because the world will always need farmers.

  • I plan to be a farmer someday. I would love to do this job. I really enjoy field work and prefer doing that over anything else. I do not want to do any other job.
