Question 5

Attracting Target Audience And Choices made in Production

Research and Planning

  • My Target Audience are young people who like futuristic things, fashion and partying. Besides Chill-step, they enjoy listening to Dub-step, Rock and Pop.
  • My Target audience also seem to like spending their time on Social Media such as Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr.

Research and Planning

  • I had to consider a lot of things for my magazine. These include: the type of font, design, model's mood and appearance, colour scheme, layout, content, images and even language.

I made a splashy logo on the first letter of my masthead which is similar to Rock Sound. This is a great effect as it is memorising and eye-catching.

Masthead Graphics

  • I chose to do a splatter effect because it looks like a paint splash. This suggests that this magazine is aimed for younger audience and gives my magazine originality which separates it from other magazines and it also looks futuristic as my font has an interesting design.
  • Therefore, I made my masthead as original as I could be adding gradient, logo and a a continnuous line on the last letter.

I have tried to use a similar pose and expression of a model in a Mixmag magazine. It also inspired me to use yellow on her clothes as it attracts a lot of attention.

Untitled Slide

  • A lot of models on magazines that feature Dub-step either have a plain and a serious expression, stereotypical look or look like they are in a club dancing.
  • I decided that I want my model not to look plain or stereotypical, so I made sure she looks like she's having fun and dresses fashionably and appropriately which will made the magazine look fun, appealing and not miserable.

Costume Choices

  • I decided that I want my magazine to be relatable, therefore I made sure my model is wearing something trendy which my audience would likely to wear. I also wanted it to match with the seasons which was winter at the time, so I gave her a coat.
  • A lot of artists on magazines are wearing plain clothes such as grey T-shirts and black jeans, however since my fans are fashion-orientated, they need to identify with my model expressively as well.

LANGUAGE

Even though I've got young audience, the ages vary up to 25. therefore, I made sure that my text isn't too formal but is also friendly enough not to offend the public. For example, I used big bold capital letters in some places to make it more exciting and loud and lowercase letters with formal text when I am writing the content itself.
