Why do Teens Use Drugs?

  • Peer Pressure
  • Escape
  • Performance Improvement
  • Experimentation
  • To feel grown up

Peer Pressure

  • Teens are often pressured by their friends or classmates to do drugs. They want to fit in with others and try to by taking drugs along with their classmates. Teens should understand its okay not to fit in. They should not just take drugs because their friends do. This will help them not become addicted.

Escape

  • Teens often use drugs to cope with depression, loss, and anxiety. Drugs can help numb the pain. However, teens should avoid drugs and cope with friends or therapy.

Performance Improvement

  • Pressure causes many teens to use drugs to become stronger at sports. However, drugs may lead to health problems and teens should instead train harder.

Experimentation

  • Kids are curious and they just want to know what drugs will do to them or how they will feel. However, once someone tries a drug they will most likely become addicted and have trouble quitting.

To Feel Grown Up

  • Teens want to feel grown up. Teens are excited to become adults and they want to try drinking and smoking. Teens should instead just be patient and they will feel like adults. Drugs should never be used on purpose to feel good because they cause many diseases and even death.
