acquisition of food

  • We hunted buffalo deer elk and wild turkeys
  • we harvester vegetables such as spinach turnips and potatoes
  • this food was also flavored with wild herbs wild berres and fruits
  • when we couldent find food we ate dried buffalo meat

Region of Texas

  • we lived in southern plains in the middle of texas
  • we lived where cities like Abilene and Lubbock are today

interactions and conflicts

  • we went in war with the Chenneys and the Arapahos this war travled to san antinio
  • on august 1840 we went to Victoria and Mexican and Kiowa help we captured 1600 horses
  • we came in conflict with the apaches as they moved south

Clothing

  • us men wore deer skin pants and shirts the women wore dresses made of dear skin and knee boots with beeds
  • kids wore deer skin pouches and rarely wore shirts

  • We used bows and arrows
  • Stone ball clubs
  • Jawbone ball clubs
  • Hatchets
  • speeres
  • lances
  • Knives
  • our wepons were made of buffalo parts

Religion

  • The great plains tribes such as Comanche believed in Manitou, the great spirt, this was based on animism that encompassed the spiritual or religious idea that the universe and all natural objects etc. have souls or spirts.

communications

  • Today only our elders still know the Comanche language
  • We speak in Shoshonean and sign language In world war I and II our people created secret messages in our language they called us code talkers

Housing

  • We lived in tent like homes called teepes
  • It was constructed from long wooden poles that were covered with weather proof animal skins like buffalo hides
  • The tent was pyramid shaped with flaps and openings

Government

  • there are lots of famous comanche leaders here are some of them chief white eagle chief el sordo buffalo hump and Quanah parker

Art

  • They made crafts
  • Some of the crafts are collectibles and artwork
  • there art was widespread and pottery was famous through the area
  • Art was not a major thing for the comanches

Traditions

  • We had lots of ceremonies some were the sweet lodge ceremony the vision quest and the sun dance ceremony they also had the ceremonial pipe it was filled with tobacco it was used as a peace treaty

Economics

  • The riches of the Comanche tribe was based on how many horses you had horses were very valuable especially for warriors. The Comanche's were known for there great ability in trading the Spanish held trading fairs that the Comanche liked to go to.
