CLEAN V. DIRTY ENERGY

BY THE BEAUTIFUL: MS. KAREN WALKER

CLEAN ENERGY:Biomass

What is Biomass Energy?
Biomass Energy is:
Renewable organic materials, such as wood, agricultural crops or wastes, and municipal wastes, especially when used as a source of fuel or energy. Biomass can be burned directly or processed into biofuels such as ethanol and methane.

THE PROS TO BIOMASS ENERGY SOURCES

  • Made locally with minimul cost
  • Produces green house gasses
  • Converts waste into fuel
  • Promotes energy independence
  • Carbon Neutral

The Cons. . .

  • Large areas of land are needed to create enough electricity to make biomass efficient.
  • Some materials are not available all year around.
  • The geography of a country limits the types of biomass used to create energy.
  • If biomass is over used, than deforestation and other environmental problems can develop.....

What is Nuclear a Energy?
Nuclear Energy:
electric or motive power generated by a nuclear reactor.

THE PROS OF NUCLEAR ENERGY...

  • Relatively Low Costs
  • Low Pollution
  • High Energy Density

THE CONS...

  • High construction costs due to complex radiation containment systems and procedures.
  • High subsidies needed for construction and operation, as well as loan guarantees.
  • High-known risks in an accident.
  • Target for terrorism
  • Waste lasts 200 – 500 thousand years.
