A

  • Asymmetrical
  • Asymmetrical is an informal type of balance which is when you have two sides with clear differences and not symmetrical.
  • This picture is asymmetrical because he clearly shorter side.

B

  • Balance
  • Balance is shown through three different types; symmetrical, asymmetrical, and radial.
  • These pictures show balance through these different types.

C

  • Color Wheel
  • The color wheel is a basic tool to show us the important hues, and it's based off the the standard color theory.
  • This picture shows the color wheel.

D

  • Diagonal
  • Diagonal is one of the four line types used in elements of design.
  • This picture shows how diagonal lines are used for a texture to bookshelves and a fixture for the ceiling.

E

  • Emphasis
  • Emphasis is when there is an object that is clearly the center of attention made by a single color or odd size.
  • This bright red wall is the emphasis of the room since the color and size grabs your eye.

F

  • Fluorescents
  • Fluorescents are hues that have bright and vibrant tones to them.
  • This picture shows some fluorescent lights within the colors.

  • Gradation of Intensity
  • Gradation of Intensity is the scale which shows how the brightness or dullness of a hue is changed by mixing the color by its compliment.
  • This chart shows the gradation of Intensity by showing the different colors intensity.

H

  • Harmony
  • Harmony shows the variety and unity of different shapes and textures that end up working well together.
  • The peacock feathers show harmony because the different shapes and textures to create the harmony and unity of the feathers.

I

  • Intermediate Colors
  • Intermediate colors are made by equal amount of a primary color and a secondary color.
  • The picture shows all the intermediate colors on the color wheel.

  • Joann's Fabrics
  • Joann's fabrics is a place to buy crafts and fabrics in order to make the creations for your design needs and wants.
  • This is a picture of a Joann's Fabric store.

  • Kimono
  • Kimono is a style of old Japanese culture which is a style or a design pattern on the type of clothes.
  • This picture shows a few examples of kimonos from old Japanese culture.

L

  • Line
  • There are four different types of lines that can come together to create a design; diagonal, horizontal, vertical, and a curve.
  • This picture shows a design using different types of lines(curve, diagonal, etc.).

M

  • Monochromatic
  • Monochromatic is a color scheme in which you use different shades, tints, and tones of one color from the color wheel.
  • This room is an example of this because it uses different shades and tints of blue in order to create a monochromatic scheme.

N

  • Neutral Colors
  • Nuetral colors are colors that cannot be found on a color wheel; or it is called achromatic, which means "without color."
  • This picture is an example of achromatic, since it is in black and white.

  • Orange
  • Orange is a secondary color on the color wheel, it is created by red and yellow.
  • This picture shows multiple furniture items which are primarily orange.

  • Primary Colors
  • The primary colors on the color wheel are red, yellow, and blue.
  • The balloons each show one of the primary colors and how well they work together.

  • Quilt
  • A quilt is a blanket, which is made from different fabrics that have multiple designs and textures to it to create and variety and unity.
  • This is an example of a quilt all laid out to show its multiple designs, colors, and patterns.

R

  • Repetition
  • Repetition is a rhythm in which is made from duplicating shapes, colors, patterns, over and over to create a design.
  • This hall is an example of repetition because it used the same archway over and over to create a rhythm.

S

  • Secondary Colors
  • Secondary colors are colors that are created by mixing equal amounts of two primary colors.
  • These crayons show the secondary colors; orange, green, and violet.

  • Triad
  • A triad is a color scheme which uses three colors that are equally spaced from each other on the color wheel.
  • This picture shows a triangle on the color wheel to show that they are equally spaced to create the color scheme.

U

  • Unrealistic Proportion
  • Unrealistic proportion is an element of design that has unequal rationalities that doesn't make sense and creates a weird image.
  • This picture of the woman being put to scale to the Barbie shows how unproportional barbies are and have a unrealistic proportion scale.

V

  • Vertical Lines
  • Vertical lines are another of the four examples of lines.
  • The vertical lines on the wall create a great texture and theme to the room.

W

  • Warm Colors
  • Warm colors are the colors on the color wheel that creat the feeling of warmth and excitement.
  • The picture shows the warm color that are on the color wheel.

X

  • X-Stitch
  • The x-stitch is a stitch which is used by a thread and needle that creates the shape of an X, and creates a strong stitch.
  • The picture shows an example of the x-stitch being used.

Y

  • Yokhana
  • Yokhana is the Design for Living and Fashion Design teacher, she continuously is working and helps her students learn what they need to about design.
  • Here is a picture of her at Christmas time by some of her students dresses made out of Christmas trees.

Z

  • Zig Zag
  • Zig zag is a type of line created by multiple diagonal lines that create a pattern and create a variety.
  • The wall is an example of zig zags that are repeated to create a pattern.
