MOTHER MARY

  • Believed to have been conceived without original sin (called the Immaculate Conception)
  • Believed to have been a virgin throughout her life
  • She is believed by Catholics to have ascended into Heaven on the day of Jesus’ ressurection
  • Catholics pray to her (prayers such as the Hail Mary)

PURGATORY

  • Those destined for Heaven must go thru an interim state called Purgatory, where they are cleansed of venial sin
  • However, those with mortal sin, and have not repented before their death, are believed to be damned

MORTAL SINS

  • Mortal sins are unpardonable unless the sinner repents for them
  • For a sin to be a mortal sin, it must be relating to grave subject matter, be committed with full knowledge of its gravity, and committed with complete consent

PAPACY

  • The Pope is the head of the Roman Catholic Church
