Women's rights

  • During the mid 1800's many women seeking more rights were considered feminists
  • These women sought major change to laws restricting them in society
  • Women argued for the right to vote and more political freedom
  • Women also strived for jobs, proper marriage, and opportunity for education
  • Many feminists often got together to start convention to protest these laws

Seneca Falls Convention

  • Most famous feminist convention, held in Seneca Falls, NY
  • The main organizer of the convention was Lucretia Mott
  • At this convention, Feminists insued the "deceleration of sentiments"
  • Deceleration of Sentiments modeled off the Deceleration of Independence
  • "We hold these truths to be self evident: that all men and women are created equal"
