  • Camped at wounded knee creek
  • Many buffalo killed to rid the lands of the indians
  • Soldiers came into native territory for the black hills Gold

BATTLE OF LITTLE BIGHORN

  • June 25 1876
  • 80 U.S. soldiers died
  • The sioux of the Northern Plains amd Montana resisted western expansion
  • Sioux chief Red Cloud started 2 year war to prevent project
  • War ended at fort Leranie, with treaty of 1968 under which americans abandoned trails

BATTLE OF WOUNDED KNEE

  • Happened in1890, 200+ killed
  • Under stress the native americas saw the rise of prophets
  • They were predicting prosperities were they promised a return to normal life
  • This would only happen if they preformed the goast dance
  • 121 men 230 women and children surrendered and were rounded up at wounded knee

WOUNDED KNEE PART TWO

  • One of the natives fired a shot causing the soldiers to open fire
  • Which became known as the massacre at wounded knee

GHOST DANCE

  • A ritual in which people joined hands and danced in a circle

  • Apache and navajo wars carson killed and relocated many apache to reservations 1861-1886
  • Sand creek massacre, Cheyenne massacre prompting Chivington to kill 500 surrendered apache 1864
  • Red river war, a retaliation towards the loss of the buffalo 1874-1875
  • Nez Percé war, sent to prevent indian ruckus 1877
