The 6 Fails To Avoid

When Building A Preaching Schedule

Ignoring key dates & holidays

Christmas time is for Christmas sermons. Members and visitors alike expect a Christmas message.

Ignoring associate ministers

Everyone knows you’re the pastor. Young ministers are hungry for opportunities to use & develop their gifts. Not utilizing them is a disservice to all

Ignoring associate ministers
Avoid this Fail:
Share your pulpit with others who have a gift that needs to be nourished. Offer constructive feedback & room for growth

Ignoring the Ladies

There are things I can’t say to sisters, but my wife can. It’s important that women take up the task of teaching other women.

Ignoring the Ladies
Avoid this Fail:
Allow female ministers to serve & teach the sisters in the church from the pulpit

Series run too long

One Pastor-Teacher taught Romans 8 for 40 weeks! Using only 1 verse as a key scripture weekly. Everyone rejoiced when he reached verse 39

Series run too long
Avoid this Fail:
Break up long series with a 2-week break. Use creative topics to point to various sections of Scriptures you’re teaching

Goal-less Preaching

"Because it’s Sunday" is a horrible & downright pitiful excuse to preach. Every sermon needs an end-game.

Goal-less preaching
Avoid this Fail:
Think & pray about what your church needs to know or do at the end of the series, then build your sermons from there

Avoiding the Pulpit

We know churches infamous for this. Pastors who miss 3 months of services to do plays, show movies, and bring in comedians.

Avoiding the Pulpit
Avoid this Fail:
Bring in someone or multiple persons to do a series & provide quality word
