BORN

  • June 28th, 1491 at Greenwich Palace London
  • Father King Henry VII
  • Mother Elizabeth of York

AS A CHILD

  • He had six siblings...only three survived
  • Pictured here at 12...his mom died when he was 11
  • His older brother Arthur was to be the next king, but died at age 15
  • When Henry was 10 he became the heir to the throne
  • He became king of England at age 17

AS A YOUNG MAN

  • He was highly educated & fluent in many languages
  • Admired for his intelligence, good looks, good nature and athletic ability
  • Artistic he sang and wrote music as well
  • Loved jousting and sports
  • Became king on April 21st, 1509 at 17 yrs old after the death of his father

HE HAD SIX WIVES

  • Elizabeth I of England
  • Mary 1 of England
  • Edward VI of England- became heir to throne
  • Henry, Duke of Cornwall- died at 53 days old
  • Henry FitzRoy, 1st Duke of Richmond and Somerset- illegitimate child

THE JOUSTING ACCIDENT

  • During a jousting match in 1536 he fell from his horse
  • Wearing a full suit of armor his horse then fell ontop of him
  • He lost conciseness & was thought to be dead
  • It is thought that he suffered severe brain injury
  • Many believe this it was caused him to turn into a tyrant

FIVE FACTS

  • He sent more men and women to their deaths than any other monarch
  • Many don't know but his last name is TUDOR
  • He made his own church just to divorce his wife
  • He made the biggest invasions since Henry V
  • Henry VIII wrote the book called the 'Declaration of the Seven Sacraments'
