EARLY LIFE

  • St. Augustine was born on November 13, 354
  • in Thagaste, Numidia
  • At age 11 he studied pagan beliefs and teachings
  • He went to college at 17 and there he lost his interest
  • in the church and left and later joined the Manichaean religion

CONVERSION STORY

  • At the age of 31 he was inspired after hearing the
  • story of Saint Anthony of the Desert
  • Later he explained that his conversion was like hearing a
  • child like voice speak to him

LIFE CONT.

  • After his conversion he was baptized in Milan a year later
  • Between the year he wrote books some called Confessions
  • of St. Augustine and The City of God
  • In 391 Augustine was ordained as a priest and later
  • in 395 he was ordained as a bishop; Feast day- August 28

HAGIOGRAPHY

  • St. Augustine was on the beach and saw a young boy,
  • the boy was trying to fill a small hole with the whole sea.
  • And so St. Augustine told him that it is impossible.
  • The boy responds it is no more impossible that trying
  • to comprehend the mystery of the Holy Spirit

HAGIOGRAPHY

  • Many people think that this was from a message of God
  • to tell St. Augustine a lesson on pride
  • And reminds us about the human limits and understanding
  • the great mystery of God

PATRONAGE

  • St. Augustine is the patron of Brewers
  • because of his amazing turn around
  • and gave up a life of sin
  • After his conversion he also practiced poverty
  • and supported the less fortunate
