WHAT IS RUBELLA?

  • An infection that affects your skin and lymph nodes.
  • Can be known as "German measles"
  • "The Scarlet Scourge"
  • A rash that normally spreads from your face and anything below

WHAT CAUSES RUBELLA?

  • Rubella virus
  • Not the same virus causing measles
  • Transmitted by air "air attacker"
  • When someone sneezes or coughs and it goes into the air
  • A person breathes in the disease

POWERS AND ABILITIES

  • Highly contagious
  • Many pregnant women are affected
  • In 1964,65 over 20,000 babies were born with permanent disability
  • Babies can even die

WEAKNESSES

  • Vaccines can treat or prevent
  • About 95% of people vaccinated don't get the disease
  • Most common vaccine- MMR vaccine
  • The vaccine stops the disease from spreading
  • Rubella is usually just 1 shot in your lifetime

WHO DOES IT ATTACK?

  • Basically anyone
  • If you are healthy and you get it the disease is very mild
  • The babies are the ones who are most attacked
  • Especially the ones who haven't even been born yet

  • Get the VACCINE
  • "Basics"
  • Wash hands
  • Cover sneeze and coughs
  • Try not to touch things in public

SYMPTOMS

  • Rash
  • Low Fever below 101 degrees
  • Running nose, sore throat, headache, body aches
  • Red, inflamed eyes
  • Swollen glands at the back of your ears or neck

HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?

  • 14-23 days
  • 16-18 days
  • Depends how severe or age
  • Rash- 3 days more
  • Children recover faster than adults

HISTORY

YOU DONT NEED THE VACCINE IF;

  • Man born before 1957
  • Woman born before 1957 who is for sure not having any children
  • Already had 2 doses
  • Already had 1 dose and not at risk

  • College student, trade student
  • Work in a hospital or any medical facility
  • Travel internationally, passenger on cruise ship
  • Women of childbearing age
