  • Women's struggles to gain equal rights with men begin in the late 1700's and the early 1800's.

ELIZABETH CADY STANTON

  • Was Lucretia Mott and Susan B. Anthony's patrner for women's rights to vote.
  • Played a big leadership role in the women's rights movement.

SENECA FALLS CONVENTION

  • Was the first women's rights convention.
  • It was a convention to discuss the social, civil, abd religious condition and rights of women.
  • Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott organized this event.

EARLY MARCHES

  • The Equal Rights Amendment was one of the major causes of the second wave
  • The Equal Rights Amendment inspired demonstration after demonstration in the '70s.

EQUAL RIGHTS

  • During WW1, the contributions of women to the war effort increased for a suffrage amendment.
  • In 1919, the Senate finally passed the amendment and sent it to the states for approval.
  • The amendment says, " the right of citizens of the U.S. To vote shall not be denied or abridged by the U.S. or by any state on account of sex."

PLANNED V.S. CASEY CASE

  • In 1922, in The Planned v.s. Casey, the reaffirms the validity of a women's rights to abortion under Roe v.s. Wade.
  • This case succesfully challenges Pennsylvania's 1989 Abortion Control Act, which sought to reinstate restrictions previously ruled unconstitutional.
  • In 1994, The Violence Against Women Act tightens federal penalities for sex offenders, funds services for victims of rape and domestic violence, and provides training of police officers.

HOW IS AFFECTED SOCIETY?

  • If these people had not had done all of this,the women would still would have no rights;they would not be treated equal to men and would be treated unfair.
