About her life

  • Her full name is Rosa Louise McCauley Parks
  • She was born on February 4, 1913 in Tuskegee, Alabama.
  • She was a civil rights activist
  • She was named " The First Lady of Civil Rights ", and " The Mother of Freedom Movement" by the U.S Congress
  • She died on October 24, 2005 in Detroit, Michigan from natural causes

how she inspired us

  • Rosa refused to yield her seat to a white man
  • She went to jail on December 1, 1955 in Montgomery, Alabama and found guilty on December 5th.
  • After her arrest, a boycott started and lasted 13 months.
  • She quoted," People always say that I did not give up my seat because I was tired, but that is not true. They only tired I was, was giving in."

how her contributions affected society

  • She proved that it is possibly for someone to make a stand
  • Rosa Parks was apart of the bus boycott to help fight for equal rights
  • She affected society by making our voices heard and treating each other fairly.
