It took place Jamestown, Virginia Colony in 1676.

Who were the main figures?
The 2 main figures were Nathaniel Bacon leader of the rebellion and Sir William Berkley, Jamestown governor.

WHY DID IT TAKE PLACE?

  • High taxes
  • Indian disturbance
  • Low tobacco prices
  • Splitting of land
  • Special privileges for friends of governor

WHAT HAPPENED?

  • Sir William Berkley decreed acts against the Indians.
  • Nathaniel Bacon took his own action against Indians.
  • Bacon got arrested by Berkley but escaped and took Jamestown.
  • Berkley recaptured then Bacon burned it to the ground.
  • Bacon died and the rebellion collapsed.
  • Berkley destroyed the remains and went back to England where he died.

Effect
This stirred rebellion in the colonies and eventually led to Independence.
