Welcome to North Carolina
North Carolina was founded in 1653 by colonists from Virginia, which was already a colony at that time. Even though North Carolina has north in its name, it is located in the region of the Southern colonies.
The economy of North Carolina is based on crops. North Carolina grows cotton, rice, tobacco, sugar and indigo, which is a deep rich blue-colored dye.
The geography of North Carolina is split into three main groups: The Appalachian Mountains, Piedmont Plateau and the Coastal Plain.
There is religious freedom in North Carolina.

- North Carolina was named after King Charles I of England.
- There are no formal schools, instead children work on farms.
- Carolina comes from the Latin word "Carolinus" meaning Charles.
- The first permanent settler in North Carolina was a farmer named Nathaniel Batts and he settled here in 1653.
- North Carolina's first governor was Edward Hyde.

- The highest point in South Carolina is Sassafras Mountain. They use sassafras to make root beer.
