TRUE OR FALSE????

  • The Museum of Death is a real museum
  • The Parasite Museum in Tokyo exhibits 300 types of parasite
  • There are theories and schools dedicated to the art of museum curation.

ANSWERS

  • True: the museum of death in Hollywood includes a head severed by the guillotine in France.
  • True: there's even a 300 foot long tapeworm!
  • True: you can study museology in college!

Today's objective: create Wunderkammers in Keynote or PowerPoint slides.

TASK #1: PREP

  • Open a pages document
  • Label it: 7(_).Lastname.Firstname.WunderSlides
  • Put both hands flat on your desk. First pod to finish is granted 2 points.
  • You have three minutes!

TASK #2: ANSWER THE QUESTIONS

  • What is a museum? Why is it valuable?
  • What is a "curated collection"?
  • What is a Wunderkammer?
  • What is Conservation? How are objects conserved? How are ideas conserved?
  • Find a photo of a famous Wunderkammer. Where is/was it? Who created it? What's in it?
  • Find a photo of a famous Museum. Where is it? What's in it?

TASK #3: COMPLETE THE TASK

  • What is the official name of your Mexican Museum?
  • When was it founded?
  • What era in history or particular collection does it exhibit?
  • Go online and research the contents of your museum. Choose one famous piece from a collection in it. What idea does this piece help preserve?

TASK #4: PLAN

  • In your Pages Doc, add a second section. Label it WunderMe
  • List and describe in exquisite detail three to five curious tangible objects of yours that you would like to preserve in your theoretical WunderKammer
  • Do the same for three to five intangible things of yours you'd like to preserve (This one is tricky! Think about your intellectual knowledge, like a language, or your emotional characteristics, like equanimity).
