  • George Washington Carver is most famous for inventing over 300 things out of peanuts.

early life

  • George Washington Carver was born in Missouri.
  • He was a slave.
  • He was the first African American to go to college in Iowa.
  • He was known as the "Peanut Man"
  • He loved science and art.

George Washington Carver loved plants. He invented a way to make cheese, ink, and soap out of peanuts.

He also made molasses, robber, and glue out of sweet potatoes.

George Washington Carver is also famous for inventing crop rotations.

  • He learned that cotton hurt the soil.
  • He taught people to plant cotton one year and sweet pototes the next year.
  • This helped the plants grow big and strong.

TRUE FACt

  • While learning about plants he discovered a pest called the cotton weevil.
  • The cotton weevil eats cotton.
  • He learned that cotton weevils don't like peanuts.
  • Because planting peanuts was a risky crop, he made things that out of peanuts that kept cotton weevils away.

Many people think he invented peanut butter but he didn't.
