GOBI DESERT

  • The Gobi Desert can go years without rain
  • The Fobi desert is a vast arid region in northern China and southern Mongolia. It's known for its dunes, mountains, and rare animals like snow leopards and Bactrian camels.

ORHON RIVER

  • The Orhon River is the largest river in Mongolia
  • It rises in the Khangai Mountains in the Tsenkher sum of Arkhangai aimag at the foot of the Suvraga Khairkhan mountain.

MT. KHUITEN

  • Mongolia's highest peak is Mt. Khuiten aka (Cold Mountain) and is 14,350 ft.

FOOD

  • Most people like to eat buuz
  • Buuz is steamed dumplings stuffed with chopped meat, onions, cabbage, garlic, salt and pepper.
  • Alot of the other foods include dairy products like milke, cheese, and yogurt
  • Khorkhog (horhog) is made by cooking pieces of meat inside a container which also contains hot stones and water, and is often also heated from the outside.

RELIGIONS

  • Shamanism was the main religion until Tibetan Buddhism came to Mongolia.
  • A shaman is a person regarded as having access to, and influence in, the world of benevolent and malevolent spirits, who typically enters into a trance state during a ritual, and practices divination and healing.

CHILDREN'S DAY

  • On June 1 children dress in their best clothes, go to amusement parks, have parties and get presents

  • The Del is the is a kind of large coat that crosses in front to attach to the side and on the shoulder with buttons.

ORIGINAL SETTLEMENT

  • The Oirad Mongolian tribe was the first to settle in Southern Mongolia.
  • They were a colony , 1303

POLITICAL CONFLICT

  • In 1206 Chinggis Khan founded the Mongol Empire.In 1227 After Chinggis's death the Mongol Empire was split into 4 kingdoms.In 1260 Chinggis's grandson Kublai Khan took over 1 of the 4 kingdoms and made modern day Mongolia and China.
  • In 1271 Kublai formed the Yuan Dynasty. The Yuan Dynasty was the first foreign dynasty to rule all of China until it was overthrown by the Chinese Ming Dynasty in 1368

NEWS

  • On March 3 2016 Nicolas Cage agrees to return Tyrannosaurus skull to Mongolia.The actor bought the Skull at a auction in 2007 but little did the actor know that the skull was stolen.The man who stole the Skull was Eric Prokopi who was a palaeontologist.

THE FLAMING CLIFFS

  • American paleontologist and then head of the American Museum of Natural History Roy Chapman Andrews, discovered the first nest of dinosaur eggs here and alerted the world on his return home. He named the site the Flaming Cliffs (Mongolian: Ulalzah Tsonj) for their fiery orange-red glow at sunset.

ORKHON VALLEY COMPLEX

  • The home of many ancient states established on the territory of Mongolia.This was recognized as a natural landscape in 2004. Old Turkish Orkhon inscriptions from the 8th century, the ancient 8-9th century Uighur capital of Khar Balga the Tuvkhun Monastery was established by the great Mongolian sculptor Zanabazar in 1648.

LAKE HOVSGOL (HUVSGUL)

  • Also called the Mother Ocean or Blue Pearl among Mongolians this freshwater lake contains as much as 1-2% of the world’s fresh water and is considered the younger sister of the oldest or biggist lake is Lake Baikal

Ulaanbaatar

  • The capital Ulaanbaatar is more than just a city. It is a combination of tradition and modern society, although most travelers do not come to Mongolia and when they do they usually experience both that of an urban society and a strong nomadic influence here. Glimpses of the country’s ancient and recent history can be viewed through trips to the remnant monasteries, Soviet-style apartments and public buildings, modern glassy skyscrapers.

TSAGAAN SUVARGA (WHITE STUPA)

  • Located in Dundgovi Province, Tsagaan Suvarga or the White Stupa, boasts with towering structures with clear exposures of limestone bedrock from ancient sea beds. These are definitely worth the visit especially for the eyes of a geologist.
