12 Research Steps

• Select a subject.
• Narrow to a topic that works for your paper's size.
• Gather resources. Place each on a separate card...number the cards.
• Take notes from each source. Place only one note on each card.

5. Use your notes to create a simple outline. Use this reflection process to identify where you need more research.
6. Gather more notes, and, if necessary, more sources
7. Revise your original outline
8. Draft, using your revised outline

9. Create your original Works Cited from your draft
10. Revise your draft; try to get to the end.
11. Revise your Works Cited to fit only the sources you used in your draft.

12. Finalize your paper; format your pages.
