Renaissance
The artistic style of early painting in Florence and Rome. Characterized by technical mastery and heroic composition and humanistic contents that began in Italy in the 1300s.
Example would be Leonardo da Vinci

Westernization
To convert to the customs of western civilization. Europe's cultural influence then began to spread around the world. Example: of the colony of Macao in a 1598 engraving.

Absolutism
Is a rule in which many monarchs or rulers centralized power & authority. This system has unlimited power. Example: Louis XIV of France;king of France from 1643 to 1715.

Divine Right
Is when monarchs claimed that their right to rule came from god. This authority was not to be questioned. Example: Mandate of Heaven from china.

Commercial Revolution
is a period in time where there was a primary change in the quantity/trade and commerce. This historical era took place between the 16th century. Example: the European nations gain dominance on the world stage.

Capitalism
Economic system in which all sources are privately owned and markets determined how those resources are distributed.
Example: European life

Secular
A non religious, related to concerns of the world. Example: economic, political, social, and cultural helped propel Europe rise to power.

Conquistadors
Are small armies of Spanish conquerors of the Americans. Example:Francisco Pizarro

Mestizos
Persons; mixed-race descendants of Europeans and Indians. Example: black Africans , and native Indians.

Inflation
Rising prices usually caused by an increased in the money supply. Example: Britain and Holland are countries that invested wisely.

Colombian Exchange
The transfer of plants, animals, and diseases between the eastern abd Western Hemisphere. Example: potatoes were one of the foods that spread from the Americans.

Great Dying
The greatest destruction of lives in human history.
Example:people were infected by smallpox that were contracted from the Spanish.

Humanism
cultural impulse characterized by a revival of classical letters, an individualistic and critical spirit, and a shift of emphasis from religious to secular concerns. Example:the denial of any power.

religious revolution that took place in Western Europe in the 16th cent. Example: Roman Catholic Church

Scientific Revolution
the emergence of modern science during the early modern period. Example:medicine for the sick.

Enlightenment
movement within Catholicism to find answers to the secularism of the Enlightenment. Example: been good and going to heaven.
