PRESENTATION OUTLINE

My Experience At Unique Ink
by Amanda Ryan

From the very beginning I was really excited to work on this project. I knew I was being given a special opportunity to use my marketing skills and the skills that I had learned in my small business class during the school year.

I was really excited to find out at our first meeting that I would be working with people I knew from class, and some people I didn't know.

I was really excited to find out at our first meeting that I would be working with people I knew from class, and some people I didn't know.

The first day of work was really difficult...

I didn't understand why we had to do more paperwork, do silly group exercises and take personal writing time. I just wanted to work.

But as the weeks went on, I grew accustom to such mundane tasks. It even helped me be more productive.

During my time here at Unique Ink, I did a lot of administration type of work.

The first thing I did, was take a lot of spreadsheets, and organize them into a cloud based program called ZoHo and put them into a CRM.

I took close to 200 contacts into a brand new system that I have never worked with before. I had to fact check every single one of those contacts to get them up to date.

They are all pretty and in Alphabetical order now...

After getting all of those contacts, I then went through them alphabetically and sent emails to every. single. person.

200 emails

just sent. not including replies.

Here is a sample email sent to a restaurant that was mentioned in our book Where the Roses Smell the Best: A Literary Guide to Portland:

Good Afternoon, My name is Amanda Ryan, and I am emailing you on behalf of Unique Ink (Roosevelt High School's publishing company through the Writing and Publishing Center), and we are wondering if you would be interested in having our book Where the Roses Smell the Best: A Literary Guide to Portland to sell or advertise in your restaurant. (continued)

We are coming to you, because ______________was mentioned in the book, and we feel we would be a great match. We would love to come down and present the book to you and tell you more about it. If you are interested, please feel free to email back at this address to set up an appointment. We look forward to hearing from you.

With the personal writing time given, I was able to write a three page book review on one of my favorite books, The Time Traveler's Wife.
