  • Women's rights
  • At the beginning of the 1970's, women were one-third of the workforce.
  • Women were still paid less for doing the same jobs as men until 1972.
  • In 1972, the Whitlam Government ruled that women doing the same job as men 
  • should be paid the same as men

  • During President Nixon's 2nd term he resigned because of the Watergate case
  • In June of 1972 burglars broke into the Democratic Committee Headquarters
  • The case lead to lies and scandals that enventually forced Nixon to resign

  • In the 1970's Jimmy Carter established the
  • Department of Education. 
  • The Department of Education provides financial aid
  • collects educational date and identifies education issues

  • The Intel 4004 was the world's first general microprocessor made
  • by Intel in November of 1971
  • Engineers could purchase the Intel 4004 and customize it with software
  • to use different functions in a wide range of electronic devices

  • In 1970, the U.S. population reached over 200 million
  • It took 50 years for the population to jump from 100 to 200 million
  • Illinois was the geographic center of the United States

  • There was very bad inflation in the 70s due to the Arab Oil Embargo
  • The oil was in high demand but low in supply & effected the economy 
  • This involved The Middle East and Western countries
  • Started in 1970 and ended around 1974

  • The National Council of U.S. Catholic Bishops declared that 
  • receiving abortions resulted in excommunication from  
  • The Roman Catholic Church
  • This happened in February 13, 1973
  • This involved the followers of the Roman Catholic Church

military

  • In January 27, 1973, a multi-part peace Paris Peace Accord pact was signed
  • This pact was signed in Paris, France
  • This involved the U.S. and Vietnam
  • The last U.S. military troops would leave the war zone on March 29.
