CYSTIC FIBROSIS

WHAT IS CYSTIC FIBROSIS?

  • Cystic fibrosis is an inherited disorder
  • where you produce a thick sticky
  • mucus that impedes digestion and
  • resporation.

OCCURRENCE

  • Most people who have Cystic
  • Fibrosis have northern European
  • descent. It is rare to find other
  • ethnicities with this disorder.

PREVENTION

  • Cystic Fibrosis has no prevention
  • because it is a genetic disorder.

LIFE SPAN

  • Due to recent improvements of
  • treatment, patients with Cystic
  • Fibrosis can live to 40 or 50
  • years old.

TREATMENT

  • Antibiotics to treat and prevent lung infections,
  • mucus-thinning drugs, bronchodilators, enzymes
  • to help absorb nutrients, and thumping of the
  • chest to help dislodge mucus 1 to 4 times a day.
